Priority 3 of 6
Buses, pavements and safer streets
Responsive, linked-up public transport, pavements and roads in good repair, and streets that are safe to walk and cycle.
What we will work for
- Responsive, linked-up public transport systems
- Improved pavements and roads
- 20mph urban speed limits to make cycling safer
Why it matters here
Our roads are in a poor state of repair, with potholes left unfixed, and Uttlesford has missed out on cycle paths.
We would press Essex County Council to stop outsourcing highway maintenance and bring accountability for potholes back in-house, so that road repairs improve and public footpaths and bridleways are looked after again.
20mph limits in towns and villages make walking and cycling safer and more attractive. As more people switch to electric vehicles, new homes, car parks and leisure centres need charging points, and on-street parking needs accessible charging.
