Priority 2 of 6
Clean rivers and more wildlife
Cleaner rivers, healthier soils, more trees and better protection for the wild places we already have.
What we will work for
- Cleaner rivers
- Protect our streams and rivers, reducing sewage and pollution
- Work with farmers to increase biodiversity and the health of our soils
- Increase and protect wildlife habitats and corridors
- Give nature a real status in all planning decisions
- A broadleaf tree planted for every bedroom built
Why it matters here
Nature is declining fast across the world, and Uttlesford is no exception.
We want extensive tree planting and re-wilding. We would work with farmers to help wildlife recover and improve the health of our soils, and with towns, villages and developers so that new housing and existing communities leave room for nature.
We would end the stripping of topsoil from building sites, and protect and improve our ancient woodland, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and nature reserves.
