Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website. If something does not work for you, please let us know.
What we aim for
The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, which is also what the Green Party’s own brand guidelines ask for.
What you should be able to do
- Use every page with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline on whatever has focus and a “Skip to main content” link.
- Zoom to 400% or use a small phone without having to scroll sideways.
- Read all text against its background: colour contrast meets level AA.
- Use the site with JavaScript switched off. The one exception is the search, which needs it; everything it finds can also be reached through the menu.
- Have a screen reader announce headings, landmarks, tables and form fields properly.
- Browse without anything moving, flashing or playing by itself.
How it is tested
- Every change to the site is checked automatically with the axe accessibility engine, on one page of each kind, at a laptop width and a phone width. A failure stops the change.
- Keyboard order, focus outlines and the phone menu were checked as the pages were built.
Automated checks catch only some problems. The site has not yet been tested by people who use a screen reader or other assistive technology every day. If that is you, we would be very glad to hear how you find it.
What we know falls short
- Some articles carried over from our old website have pictures with short or missing descriptions, or links that say only “here”.
- One old leaflet is offered as a PDF that has not been checked for accessibility.
We are working through the old articles and will update this page as we go.
Tell us about a problem
